The 9" Groove is designed for grip and maneuverability. The small surface area at the base of the fin minimizes water resistance, facilitating easier turns of the board. Where the broad rounded tip secures the tail of the board against the wave, thus providing enhanced control and noseriding capabilities compared to traditional fins.
